Preventative Dental Care

​

X-Rays

X-rays, also known as radiographs, allow your dentist to see between and inside your teeth. Low radiation dental x-rays are important because they give your dentist the whole picture. They help dentists see the condition of your teeth and also the roots, jaw placement, and facial bone composition.

Fillings

​

Fillings are used to repair cavities in the teeth caused by tooth decay. The filling material (usually amalgam or composite) fills the cavity and restores the tooth back to its original shape and function. Fillings work to seal a small hole that has developed inside a tooth. Fillings can help treat cavities or tooth decay and prevent further infection from spreading. There are two main types of fillings; metal fillings and tooth colored fillings. Each type may provide certain advantages and disadvantages in different situations. Metal fillings are generally made from amalgam metal. Tooth colored fillings have are generally composite or porcelain.

Types of Fillings

Amalgam: A classic silver filling that is made of mercury, silver, tin and copper. The combination of this metals creates a strong, stable and safe filling.

Composite: For those who want an invisible filling. Consists of a mixture of plastic and glass that bonds to the tooth itself.

Porcelain: Strong, high-tech dental ceramics that are more lifelike than other fillings and don't stain as composites can.

Restorative Care

​

Restorative dentistry refers to any dental procedure that repairs or replaces a tooth. Restorative procedures include cavity fillings, root canals, and even dental implants. There can be two goals in restorative dentistry: to restore the function of the teeth and to restore the appearance of the teeth.

Crowns (or caps) are placed over damaged or misshapen teeth to improve their appearance as well as their strength and function; they can also be used to support a bridge or cover an implant post.

Bridges span gaps created by missing teeth—similar to how a regular bridge spans water—and literally “bridge” the gap between two healthy adjacent teeth with artificial replacement teeth in between them.

Veneers provide cosmetic enhancements for patients who want whiter or straighter-looking smiles; they’re thin shells of porcelain that bond directly onto natural tooth surfaces.

Dental implants replace one or more missing natural teeth with artificial titanium roots that fuse with bone tissue over time; once healed, these posts support custom-made replacement crowns.

Extractions refer either removal of wisdom teeth, which generally erupt during late adolescence but may become impacted due to insufficient space available in jawbone, or any other baby or adult tooth pulled out because of irreparable damage (from trauma or decay).

Fluorides

Fluorides are used to help prevent decay from occurring on your permanent teeth. This is accomplished by applying a fluoride gel on your teeth to help prevent the development a cavities or other forms of decay.
